Hi Jeff,

After reading your article I bought the 5D mark II. I mostly use mij 24-105 mm lense, wich is excellent.
I do still have the 50 1.4 and 70-300 4 - 5.6 IS USM lenses. Are these lenses good enough for the 5D, or should I buy L-lenses?

Rolf,

I'd recommend renting both cameras before making your decision if possible. The 50D's image quality is great up to ISO 400 but over that noise tends to be an issue. I'm not sure if the 7D will have better low light performance or not.

Thank you for you reply,

I was mostly wondering if the 7D is worth it over the 50D for what i'm using the camera for.

I'll go a bit more in depth, i do a lot of travelling, like by example last year i went to Tibet and the dolomites in Italy and this year i'm planning to go to the phillipines.

Is the difference in weathersealing and the quality of the noise ratio worth it to pay 600 euro more? I'm the backpacker kind of traveller so i'm guessing a good weather and dust seeling can be needed.

Rolf,

Thanks for reading. Almost any of Canon's current APS-C DSLR cameras would be a good upgrade from the 350D including the 50D and new 7D.

I'm quite torn here cause i mostly like travelphotography and portraits.

I currently have a Canon 350d (old, yes i know!) and i have these lenses atm:

Canon 70-200 F4 L
Canon EF-S17-55 F2.8 IS
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

As you can see i have quite decent EF-S lenses, now i am aware that with my style of photography i'm more suited with the 5D 2 but that also means i can't do anything anymore with those EF-S lense who were quite pricey and are actually very good lenses.

So, i wanted to upgrade from my 350d, what camera would you advise me?

I'm not really interested in action photography and wildlife (unless i run into it).

Morgan,

Thanks for reading. The Nvidia 9400M should be able to handle your graphic needs. I know several photographers that use their MBP's for video editing and 3D work in Photoshop CS4.

Jeff-
I am a photo student in college looking for my first laptop. At this point I am unsure of the direction I want to take in my art but am seriously considering going into graphic design or animation while continuing photo editing. Do you suppose that these demands would require an upgrade from the 15" Macbook Pro with just the NVIDIA 9400M graphics card to the 15" with a second, faster graphics card? Or would the one graphics card be able to handle these demands later on by itself?

Shannon,

The next Texas Landscape Safari workshop will be held in mid-spring (late March or early April) 2010 depending upon when the wild flowers bloom. I do offer one-on-one or small group coaching at Pedernales Falls State Park or McKinney Falls State Park (both near Austin) on most weekends if you'd like to pick a weekend for your husband. The weekend workshop is generally a Saturday evening shoot and an early Sunday morning shoot. The cost for one-on-one coaching is $250 or $175 each for groups of 2 to 3. Unless you live in Austin, it generally requires staying one night at a local hotel.

Jeff,
I'd like some more information on the dates of the spring 2010 landscape safari, as well as whether you still have openings. I'd like to give this as a gift to my husband, but I need to know the dates. Thanks.
