Bird Photography – Red Shouldered Hawk

Here’s an image captured last weekend at the Brazos Bend State Park. This was the first time I’ve seen a hawk at the park close enough (just barely) to get some images. Thank goodness for the extra resolution of the new EOS 50D.

Aircraft Photography – The C17

Here’s one final image taken from last October’s Wings Over Houston air show. I processed this in Photoshop Elements using Nik’s Color Efex Pro filters to increase the contrast and saturation.

Aircraft Photography – More Reds and Blues

Here are a few more “abstract” images taken last fall at the Wings Over Houston air show. There’s nothing better than a bright red and a deep blue. Have a great weekend!

Aircraft Photography – Colors and Textures

Walking around the tarmac during the Wings Over Houston air show last October was a visual feast for the eyes. The colors and textures found on the different aircraft were fun to capture. Looking at these images makes me long for some sunshine and warmer weather.

Canon EOS 50D – Quick Control Screen

Its the little things in a new camera that really make a difference. Anyone that has ever had to navigate the menu system on the EOS 10D, 20D, 30D or 40D will love the new Quick Control Screen feature on the EOS 50D. If you feel the Canon menu system is complicated you should see what Nikon owners have to go through to set certain functions.

To access the Quick Control Screen all you need to do is press the multi-controller and use it to navigate to whatever function you want to change. Then use the Quick Control dial or Main dial to change the setting. And once you half-click the shutter the Quick Control Screen goes blank. This is especially helpful if, like me, you hate tilting the camera to see the top LCD panel when shooting.

Aircraft Photography – Red, White and Blue

Just another image I captured last October at the Wings Over Houston air show. Its another wonderful example of how well the EOS 40D performs in a variety of situations, especially when paired with a lens like the EF 300 f/4 L IS USM. Enjoy!

Aircraft Photography – Orange Glow

One of the great things about photographing aircraft is the wonderful colors and unusual shapes and textures you’ll find. It may be the engineer in me but I love looking at a well built piece of machinery that’s been lovingly restored and maintained.

A Little Abstract Photography

Its been a cold and dreary week here in Southeast Texas but we’re thankful for temperatures above the freezing mark at least. This is the kind of weather that makes getting out to capture some images very tough for everyone. So I thought I’d spend this week looking over some images taken last fall at the Wings Over Houston air show to see what kind of abstract patterns I could find.
