Low Tide

Photographing the Florida coast is very different from Texas and Louisiana. The water is crystal clear, warm and inviting and the shoreline is as pristine as I’ve ever seen. My youngest daughter Hanna and her best friend Bridget are enjoying the surf, the sand and the sunshine. I’m enjoying the sweet sound of the gentle tide.

Life is good here and the healing begins…

  1. It is truly amazing how cathartic the ocean actually is – I moved inland a couple of years ago and dearly miss my (at least) weekly commune with the sea. Enjoy the healing.

  2. I’m glad to see you are on the mend. Having been in your situation myself I know that God is a great healer and I can see the results of Him working on you. On another subject, you are teaching us that the iPhone 4 is a great little point and shoot. It is good to see that you don’t have to own the latest and most sophisticated camera gear to produce quality photos. Can you shed some light on how a lens can have such great depth of field (as above) at an aperture of f/2.8? Keep up the good work.

    • Don,

      Thanks for the kind words.

The depth of field in any digital camera is directly proportional to the sensor size which is why you can shoot at f/2.8 (which is not user selectable on the iPhone) and still have perfect focus from three feet to infinity. The larger the sensor, the more depth of field you (the photographer) can influence through aperture selection.

      Jeff
